Will You Be My Lawyer? How to Retain Law Offices of Kevin C. Cox, LLC
We have had some confusion lately about how to retain the firm, we would like to clear some things up. Our firm absolutely offers free initial consultations that consist of up to 1 hour of our attorney’s time to evaluate your matter and discuss how much representation will cost. Each client should leave our office with the following:
1. A welcome packet &
2. A fee agreement (this may be emailed to you)
Leaving the office with these two things does not establish a working Attorney-Client relationship.
Don’t fret if you are a current client who never received a welcome packet, these are brand new. We have decided to implement a welcome packet for a few reasons:
#1 because our clients deserve a warm welcoming and
#2 to clear up some common misunderstandings encountered in our first 9 months and set clear expectations for everyone involved.
We want to make sure to communicate as clearly as possible and have clients who have expectations as to both how to communicate back with our firm, as well as what to expect in terms of costs, payments and timelines. Again, if you are a current client and did not receive a welcome packet, that’s okay, we didn’t have one. You are welcome to request a time to come in and pick one up at your convenience.
Anyhow, I got a little off track there.
So, you’ve had your (up to) one-hour free initial consultation with an attorney at the firm, you’ve gone home and reviewed your welcome packet and fee agreement, and now you want to hire the firm. Alright!!!
1. Fill out and sign the Fee Agreement, return with payment (payment options are discussed in the welcome packet you received)
2. Fill out, sign, and return the New Client Intake Form
3. Initial the acknowledgement of receipt and review of Welcome Packet and return
So then what happens?
Once the firm has received back the above (3) documents, an additional meeting will be set with one of our staff members to go over the documents needed to move your case forward and the timeline in which you can expect your case to be filed or worked on. You might be thinking: we already discussed the timeline in the free consult. That is true. Depending on how long it takes for the firm to receive all of the above paperwork that timeline could have changed dependent on workloads of our attorneys. Therefore, a quick new client meeting will be set to discuss the case once again to be sure and send you home with any documentation requests.
Law Offices of Kevin C. Cox, LLC will not hold any documents for non-clients or prospective clients until all the above forms and payments have been received.
If you have additional questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our office at any time. You can email any questions to email@example.com or call 740-622-6464 to set up your initial consultation today.
